Skillify connects neighbors who want to help each other with everyday tasks, errands, and skills — without cash changing hands. Instead, you earn XP (Experience Points) for time spent helping others, and spend XP when you need help in return.
How do I sign up?
Download Skillify, create an account with your email, and verify your email address. You'll be asked to set up a profile and provide your address — this is used only to match you with nearby listings and is never shown publicly (see Account & Privacy).
How do I create my first listing?
From the home screen, tap Create Listing, choose whether you're offering a skill or requesting help, pick a category, add a description, and set your estimated duration. Your listing will then be visible to nearby users.
Is Skillify available in my area?
Skillify is available anywhere in the United States. That said, we're actively growing the community region by region, starting with early markets — so if you're outside one of those areas, you may not see many listings near you yet. The more neighbors who join in your area, the more useful Skillify becomes, so invite your community to help it grow where you are.
XP (Experience Points) is Skillify's time-based currency. 1 minute of helping someone = 1 XP. There's no cash involved — XP is how the whole platform runs.
How do I earn XP?
You earn XP by completing sessions where you're the one providing help. XP is calculated based on the actual time spent (or an estimated duration for fixed-time listings).
How do I spend XP?
When you request help from someone else's listing, XP is set aside (escrowed) for that session. Once the session is completed, the XP transfers to the person who helped you.
Can I use XP I earned from one person to get help from someone else?
Yes. XP isn't a direct trade between two people — it goes into your own balance and can be spent with anyone on Skillify, whenever you need help next.
What happens to unused XP if a session runs shorter than expected?
If a session has an estimated (not fixed) duration and finishes early, the unused portion of escrowed XP is automatically refunded to your balance.
What if an estimated-duration session runs longer than expected?
When you book an estimated-duration session, the requester's XP is held in escrow up to the high end of that estimate — this is what guarantees you'll actually get paid for the time you agreed to. Because of this, XP can't be paid out beyond that escrowed amount, since there's no way to guarantee the requester has additional XP available beyond what's reserved. If a task is running past the estimated high end, you're welcome to keep going as a courtesy, but you're also fully within your rights to wrap up the session at that point. The escrow exists to protect your time, and ending on schedule is a legitimate choice, not something you need to feel bad about. If you expect a task might run long, it's best to set a more generous estimate upfront when booking.
How does XP work for fixed-duration sessions?
Fixed-duration listings have a set XP amount agreed at booking, and that amount doesn't change based on how long the session actually takes — whether it wraps up early or runs a bit long, the XP exchanged stays the same.
Do I start with any XP?
Yes. New accounts receive a starting XP balance to help you get going right away.
Offer: You're advertising a skill or service you can provide to others.
Request: You're asking for help with something specific.
Can I edit or delete a listing?
Yes. You can edit or delete a listing anytime before it's booked. Once someone requests it, the listing turns into a session, and from that point changes are managed through the session itself (see Sessions) rather than the original listing.
Can I set my listing to repeat automatically?
This is a Premium feature — see Premium & XP Boosts.
How does Skillify decide which listings I see?
Listings are matched by distance from the address on your profile, within a maximum radius of 25 miles. This keeps things local and helps ensure exchanges stay practical and safe. For listings that take place at someone else's location, you can narrow that radius further if you'd prefer to keep things closer to home.
Find a listing you're interested in and request it. As soon as you request it, the session appears under My Schedule on your profile with its current status (e.g. Pending, Confirmed), so you can track it from request through completion.
What if the other person doesn't show up?
If you're waiting for someone who booked your listing and they don't show, you can report a no-show once the session's start window has passed. This is handled fairly, repeated no-shows affect a user's standing on the platform.
Can I cancel a session?
Yes, from the session details screen. The short version: cancelling with plenty of notice has no penalty, but cancelling last-minute or not showing up can affect your XP and your standing on the platform — so the earlier you cancel, the better. For the full breakdown of cancellation windows, XP handling, and strikes, see the Cancellation Policy in the app (Profile → Settings → Cancellation / Strikes → Cancellation Policy).
What if something goes wrong during a session?
You can dispute a session from the session details screen. This pauses any pending XP transfer and flags it for our team to review — see Safety & Reporting.
How do I mark a session as complete?
The person who provided the help ends the session once it's finished. This triggers XP calculation and transfer.
After a session completes, both people can leave a review for each other. Reviews contribute to your overall rating, which is visible on your profile.
Can I see reviews before booking with someone?
Yes, ratings are visible on user profiles and listings.
Can I dispute an unfair review?
Reach out to support@skillifyapp.org with details, and we'll look into it.
Badges are earned achievements that showcase your skill level and dedication as a Skillify member. They're a signal to others about the kind of experience you bring, not just decoration on your profile.
How do I earn badges?
Badges are earned through a combination of milestones (like completing a certain number of sessions) and category-specific activity (like consistently helping in a particular skill area). As you stay active and build a track record on Skillify, you'll unlock badges that reflect that history.
Where can I see my badges?
Your earned badges are displayed on your profile, visible to others browsing your listings.
What are badges used for?
Beyond showing others your skill and dedication level at a glance, we're building toward badges unlocking additional value over time. Including custom merchandise tied to specific achievements, and the ability to showcase your Skillify badges on professional platforms like LinkedIn. These are on our roadmap and not fully live yet, so stay tuned.

What should I do if I feel unsafe during an exchange?

Does Skillify moderate messages?
Yes. Messages are automatically screened for clearly inappropriate content. You can also report any message directly.
What happens after I report something?
